I arrived in the Martini-Klinik at the UKE in Hamburg on May 11, 2020. I underwent surgery on the prostate on May 12, 2020.My stay was stationary until May 18, 2020. The catheter was pulled on May 25th.The admission to the clinic was professional. The vehicle can be parked in the clinic's own car park at the usual daily fees and will remain there. The care and organization on the day of arrival was very pleasant. At the reception (prostate consultation) questions are taken up during the entire stay and impressively processed immediately or answered promptly. The greeting from the doctors immediately makes you feel welcome here. The medical examinations during admission are professional, and the doctors also listen to the patient. In the Martini Clinic, doctors have the ability to put themselves individually in the patient. A property that is not a matter of course for all medical professionals. The impression that the doctors here are constantly educated and up-to-date has accompanied me in all conversations all the time. From the first day of contacting the Martini Clinic, the individual secretariats - I would like to emphasize Ms. Görgen in a special way - through the prostate consultation, the radiologist, to the individual doctors, this clinic shone. The Martini Klinik is supported by a particularly emphatic spirit and character. At the present time, an island of bliss too - and especially - when serious illnesses are treated here. Every effort is really made in this clinic. The patient feels in good hands here. The medical care is first class. My surgeon Dr. Budäus prepared me exactly for the operation the day before the operation. He took the time to answer questions, concerns and fears. After the operation I was able to see Dr. Confront Budäus with questions that were all answered with sufficient time. After the discharge on May 18, I looked for accommodation in Hamburg because my intention was to have the catheter drawn here and to have the follow-up examinations carried out on site in the clinic. When finding accommodation, I also received first-class support from the secretariat of the prostate consultation. When discharged, the patient receives a telephone number - which you can also get through - through which someone can be reached in the Martini Clinic for twenty-four hours. A hospital that is second to none. The patient rooms are bright and well and functionally furnished. Everything is at a special level here. The cleanliness of the rooms and the sanitary facilities is exemplary. The quality of the food is excellent. Breakfast, lunch and dinner have the character of a good hotel. In addition to various types of meat, there is always fish, vegetarian dishes are also served. Salads and fruit are offered. In conclusion, I can state that the Martini Clinic at the UKE in Hamburg, currently headed by twelve chief physicians, is a clinic that is organized and structured in a very exemplary manner. The patient is in the foreground in this clinic and this is noticed every day. The focus is on the specialist and technical competence, coupled with the social competence to heal the patient, and is practiced by the doctors and nurses.Obviously, it is proceeding according to plan in all areas of the filling of positions. There are only doctors, nurses and staff in the administrative area who, in addition to their professional qualifications, also have the character suitability to work in a clinic.Stephan Hubert KovacsJuly 2020

I'm super satisfied, clearly waiting in the rescue center cannot be avoided. But the nurses and the doctor were very nice and competent. I went there with a severe earache and received gentle treatment.

We have been to the hospital 3 times because of our daughter. The first time was the birth, labor started early which ultimately led to a premature birth (6 weeks too early). My wife was treated very well on the ward, but the food was really bad ... I eat pretty much everything and I am not very squeamish, but the food was really below average.Since our little one was premature and had difficulties starting, she had to be ventilated intensively and with oxygen in the incubator. The sisters were all nice and competent, the approach to our child was great (changing diapers, wearing the right ones, etc.)Really recommend it.At about 1.5 years our little one had suspected Chassaignac paralysis ... Truly no acute emergency (but in need of treatment) and something seems to forget many patients ... You are not always a life-threatening emergency !!Waiting time a good 4 hours, treatment was good. With about 2.3 years new suspicion of a Chassaignac paralysis, same as before. Arm in position and you shouldn't touch the arm. Waiting time about 30 minutes, again good and fast treatment and again about 20 minutes waiting for a doctor called.A recommended clinic. And if others understood what an emergency room is and what you go with, almost all 1 star ratings would be dropped

Birget Wendt, 21 September 2020

Vielen lieben Dank - B. Wendt

We were at 19h tonight at the Children's Hospital are just 23h back home, without my child could be treated for 9 months with 39.5 degrees Fever. It simply can not be that there is a single doctor in the emergency service for all of Wiesbaden and the children's hospital is full of chatter. There were 3 patients with the ambulance, in the waiting room were min. 10 more were waiting, treatment rooms all full, but wait in the rooms already 2 hours, is the normal? It was said there is support to a senior physician who did not come because he had to emergency surgery. But hello, are there no doctors anymore or what's up? Why save on staff when the need is so great? Where do we live, this is no longer the case in this country!

General surgery is a surgical specialty that deals with a wide range of common ailments on almost any part of the body but typically focuses on treating diseases and injuries of the abdomen, including the esophagus, small intestine, large intestine, pancreas, liver, appendix, gallbladder, and bile ducts. It also deals with diseases that involve the breasts, skin, soft tissue, digestive system, and endocrine system glands.

Despite the term “general,” general surgeons are highly skilled surgeons. They can be found practicing many types of surgery, but they may also specialize in a type of surgery, such as treating cancer, which requires the skill to perform procedures on multiple areas of the body.

Some common surgeries that are performed by general surgeons are as follows:

    • Appendectomy.
    • Breast surgery for cancerous and non-cancerous tumors, including breast biopsy, lumpectomy (breast-conserving surgery or partial mastectomy), and mastectomy.
    • Colon and rectal surgery, including colectomy, colostomy, and hemorrhoidectomy.
    • Esophageal surgery, including esophagectomy, acid reflux surgery, and excision of an esophageal lesion.
    • Gastroenterology procedures, such as gastric bypass surgery, upper GI endoscopy, and liver biopsy.
    • Gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy).
    • Hernia repair.
    • Varicose vein removal.
    • Thyroid removal.
    • Transplant, such as kidney and liver transplantations.
    • Spleen removal.
    • Wound repair.

How Long Should I Stay in Germany?

Your length of stay depends on the type of surgery you underwent. In general, you should wait for at least seven to ten days before you travel home, sometimes extending to 14 days. During your stay, you will need to rest as much as possible and let your body recover. In some cases, your surgeon may schedule a follow-up visit to evaluate your healing and, if needed, remove any stitches.

    What's the Expected Recovery Time?

Recovery time can be different from one person to another, depending on the type of surgery you have and your general health. Anytime you have some sort of incision, you will have to wait until that incision has healed completely until you can go back to your full normal routine. Your surgeon will give you an idea of how long your recovery time can take. It can take a few weeks until you are allowed to return to work, and you may need to gradually increase your activity level until you can resume all of your normal activity.

    What Aftercare is Required?

To speed your recovery time and avoid complications, it is important to follow the instructions you are given. Even a simple instruction, such as no baths after your surgery, may not seem meaningful, but your surgeon would not instruct it without good reason. You will need to have regular checkups after your surgery, but you can typically choose to have the checkups with your local doctor at home if you cannot make multiple travels to Germany.

    What's the Success Rate?

With new techniques, advanced technology, and extensive experience of general surgeons, the success and safety rate for general surgery continues to increase. For example, general surgeons can now use laparoscopic techniques or perform robot-assisted surgery to minimize the risk and increase the success rate of surgery. These new techniques are possible thanks to continuous research and advancement in general surgery. Still, no surgical procedure is risk-free. All types of surgery generally carry the risk of bleeding, infection, and damage to other organs.

    Are there Alternatives?

There is typically no alternative to general surgery. However, if your doctor suspects that you need a specific specialist for your disease or injury, they will refer you to the relevant specialist.

Whilst the information presented here has been accurately sourced and verified by a medical professional for its accuracy, it is still advised to consult with your doctor before pursuing a medical treatment at one of the listed medical providers
