Wow. Exceeded my expectations after doing over a year and a half of research into gastric sleeve. I had a friend recommend ALÔ and it was the best decision of my life! The care, attention, treatment, communication, everything was top notch. Any misconceptions or doubts you have about Mexico, Tijuana or “foreign medical care” doesn’t apply here. 100% would recommend to anyone. Dr Lopez was incredible! Did my surgery Aug 23 2019 and already down 85 lbs! 60 to go....UPDATE: it is just over a year from my surgery and I am down to about 185 lbs. from the original 330! Some new encounters with heartburn, but have managed it well with antacids. I am LOVING the new me!
Dr. Saldana and the vida staff are amazing! Dr made me feel very comfortable and explained everything to me about the procedure that I was getting.
Travelled through the Cronoavirus to get the gastric sleeve. Not only did they go above and beyond to be safe and clean from the covid 19 but its truly a well kept diamond in the rough. Super super clean, very caring, extremely pleasant surgery stay. Absolutely no complications from the sleeve and myself and mother where treated like royalties. Im definitely going back for skin removal. I would trust them with my whole life over and over before I returned to my Florida Doctor who is less clean and less kind. PLEASE DO YOURSELF THE FAVOR OF CONTACTING HOSPITAL JERUSALEM AND I PROMISE AS A PATIENT YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Sleeved 7-13-2020 and already down 25 pounds and never felt any pain or sickness.💖💖💖💖
La atención del lugar fue excelente por parte de todo el personal: operativo y especialistas. Tuve cirugía de tiroides y te fue el resultado de la costura del primer día. El estacionamiento para el familiar o paciente es totalmente gratis. …
I am so happy with the care and support that I received from all of the staff at Oasis of Hope. From the first day I made the decision to have my surgery to even now, the doctors and staff have taken great care to ensure my health and safety. I sincerely wish I knew the names of each and every one of the nurses, doctors, and staff that cared for me so I could personally thank them. I found communicating with the staff very easy, as most of them are fluent in English. I never had an issue with not being understood by staff, even the ones that were not fluent in English. Dr. Gonzales explained the procedure and asked if I had any questions. He really took the time to make sure I had a full understanding of what was being done. The hospital rooms are simple and unadorned with more than enough space to provide a comfortable stay. The shower has lots of hot water and fresh towels. Also, the room had a Lennox wall air conditioner that kept my room very comfortable. As for the hospital itself, it exudes an air of calm and peace. The only people that bustled about were the cleaning staff that cleaned everything in sight. Very Clean!! I walked around the day before my surgery and peeked into rooms with open doors. I found very modern-looking and new equipment. Nothing looked old or outdated. After my surgery, I always knew which doctor was in charge of my care and they can in the room to check on me. There was a doctor available to me 24/7 while I was at Oasis of Hope. All in all, I had a wonderful experience and can't wait to return for my body contouring surgery in a year!!

Wow! Cannot say enough good things about my MBC experience!! I began my journey early 2020–researching and learning all I could about MBC—the doctors, the staff, pre op diet, post op diet, vitamins, the procedure, etc. so much information on the MBC website!! I watched webinars every month and learned something each time especially through the Covid crisis. I had to reschedule twice because of “lockdowns” but I continued with my no soda pop, sugars, bread, and pasta diet. So on my 64th birthday (6/26/20) my friend who had gastric sleeve at MBC in December 2019, accompanied me to San Diego where we were picked up my Erik and taken to Tiquana. Our first stop was the hospital for pre op lab work and paperwork. They were so cautious, taking temperatures as we entered. Then we were taken to the Hyatt where again Covid precautions were taken, disinfecting shoes, temperatures and hand sanitizer! We were helped to our room, given broth, popsicles, and jello. The morning of surgery, I was taken to hospital early for a 7:30 surgery— I got an early slot because Dr Gutierrez was doing hernia repair and gastric sleeve. Everything is so well organized; everyone has a job and everything goes so smoothly! One minute I’m walking into the operating room, laying down and the next minute I’m waking up in recovery. The only pain I experienced was gas in my left shoulder-but thanks to recommendations of taking a heat pad, problem solved. Karla, the Coorindinator, was so very great about checking in on me. Dr Gutierrez and his assistant came by my room. The nurses kept me comfortable with medication I was allowed to walk the short hallway as long as I had my mask on. Ice chips felt so good on my throat and the first sip of apple juice was fantastic!! The day of dismissal, we received our medical reports before heading to the pharmacy to pick up our prescriptions. Back to hotel, then back to San Diego. As a 64 year old, I knew I had to do something with my weight. I had left and right total knee replacements in 2017. Gastric sleeve in the USA, was not an option because of the cost and all of the pre-op and post-op consultations that would require me to take days off work and travel 3 hours round trip each time! For those on the fence, I say Just Do It!! I printed off the 40 pages of information from MBC website—I have made notes on those pages, shared the information with my primary care physician, and referred to my “MBC bible” many times!! Watch the monthly webinars and ask questions!! And get into Facebook support groups—you will meet some of those people face to face, you can share struggles, milestones, recipes, advice and suggestions! For those who are told “it’s the easy way out for losing weight”—I say No. it takes a lot of willpower and “mind over matter” It’s not easy to give up the junk food and bad food habits. It’s not easy to live on clear liquids. It’s not easy to slowly go through the stages of getting back to solid foods. It’s not easy to drink all the water we need to—But the satisfaction and the happiness watching the scale go down to places it hasn’t been in years is well worth it!!! Thank you to MBC —Ron Eli (what a great vision and service you provide) Deanna (who helped me get started), Dr Gutierrez, the nurses, the OR crew, the drivers, the hotel staff, Nutrionist, Karla, (who is so dedicated to her job-hope she’s had time off to enjoy her seafood night with friends), those who are sanitizing and cleaning.Such great team work! Forever grateful to all of you!!

Bariatric surgery is a group of weight-loss surgeries that involves making changes to the digestive system, some of which are non-reversible. The idea behind these types of surgeries is to help patients lose weight by either limiting the amount of food they can consume/digest at any one time or reducing their body’s ability to absorb nutrients. Some procedures do both.
Bariatric surgeries should only ever be the final option when diet and exercise have proved inadequate and there are now serious health concerns caused by a person's weight. In general, these surgeries can only be an option for patients whose body mass index (BMI) is 40 or higher (extreme obesity). In certain cases, patients whose BMI is 30 to 39.9 may qualify for certain types of bariatric surgery if they have serious weight-related problems, such as type 2 diabetes.
The three most common types of Bariatric Surgeries are as follows:
The bariatric surgeries mentioned above are typically performed laparoscopically, in which the surgeon creates around one to five small incisions in the abdomen to insert a laparoscope (a long narrow tube with a camera) and surgical tools. The patients are usually given a general anesthetic, so they will not feel anything throughout the surgery.
After bariatric surgery, an overnight stay in the hospital is usually required. In some cases, you may need to stay longer (around 3 to 5 days). However, it is not advisable to leave Tijuana as soon as you are discharged from the hospital. Stay at least 10 to 14 days following your surgery for initial recovery and follow-up checkups. During the follow-up checkups, your surgeon will remove your stitches and check your overall condition.
The recovery time may take around 3 to 6 weeks until you are allowed to go back to your normal activities, including work, with some restrictions. You must avoid heavy work and strenuous activities, such as lifting, pushing, or carrying heavy loads for at least the first three months after surgery. You should also avoid sitting and standing without moving for long periods to avoid blood clots forming in your legs.
You will be given a special diet plan immediately after your surgery, as well as detailed post-operative instructions. Make sure to follow the diet plan and instructions to avoid complications and speed up your recovery. In order to maximize and maintain weight loss, it is important that you commit to healthy eating and regular exercise. There may be restrictions on how much food you can consume. You may also need to change your eating habits, such as eating 6 small meals instead of 3 large meals each day. You should take vitamins and mineral supplements to ensure proper nutrition.
The success rates vary for each of the different types of bariatric surgery. In general, within the first six months following the surgery, most patients lose around 30% to 55% of their excess weight. Then, as early as 12 months after surgery, most patients lose over 70% of their excess weight. Patients could also maintain a 50% to 60% loss of excess weight for 10 to 14 years after their bariatric surgery. Although the success rates are high, there are risks associated with bariatric surgery, such as bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, infections, spleen injury, stenosis, and infections.
There is a non-surgical Bariatric procedure, known as the Gastric Balloon. This involves an inflatable device that is temporarily inserted into the stomach via endoscopic placement. A sizable area of the stomach is obstructed by the balloon or balloons, thus reducing the amount of food it can contain at any one time, leading to eventual weight loss. The balloons are usually removed after 6 or 12 months.
If you cannot or do not want to undergo any surgery or medical procedure, you may be able to work with a doctor who is experienced in treating extreme obesity and a dietician as the alternative. They may recommend you to change your diet, adding physical activity, and prescribe medications.

Tijuana is one such favorite destination in Mexico. It is the sixth-largest Mexican city and the largest in the state of Baja California. It has some excellent health centers that will rival any big hospital elsewhere. Some of the more common and popular surgeries that people undergo in Tijuana are Breast Augmentation, Weight Reduction, Botox treatment, and other elective surgeries.
The climate is semi-dry and akin to the Mediterranean climate. The weather remains mild throughout the year. Between November and March, there is a lot of rain and thunderstorms are common during this period. August and September are the hottest months. January is usually the coldest and Rain filled month.
Summer is the driest period. The temperature may range from 13.6 °C (56.5 °F) in the cold months to 33 °C (91 °F) during summer.
Tijuana International Airport is the main airport and it serves many purposes. It is the hub for two major airlines that carry travelers to other domestic airports in Mexico. Volaris is a low-cost carrier while Aeroméxico is the flagship carrier of the country. It is also known for the Cross Border Xpress bridge that connects it to San Diego in the US. Passengers coming from the US can walk across the bridge and enter Mexico, then take a flight onwards. This airport also connects China, the USA, and many domestic airports in Mexico. Anyone can come to Tijuana directly or via the San Diego airport on the US side of the border.
There are two major highways that connect Tijuana to other cities of the country. People can take a bus connecting the city to the US and its domestic bus stations. U.S.-based Greyhound Lines and Crucero are famous. Domestic services such as Azul y Blanco de Magallanes and Transporte Efectivo Express de Tijuana operate from two different terminals in the city.
You can also opt for shared fixed-route station wagons, fixed-route taxis (somewhat expensive), and buses for local commuting. Apart from these, taxis without a fixed route, are also available. There is a Rapid transit system of buses (BRT) working particular routes now.
A tourist or a business traveler will need different types of visas to enter Mexico. The tourist visa is valid for six months. You can also get a visa for multiple entries or to extend your stay.
Citizens of some countries like the US, UK, and Canada do not need a visa to stay in Mexico. People who have a valid multiple entry visa for the US or the Schengen visa or have a PR in Canada do not need a separate visa to visit Mexico.
However, your passport should have a minimum validity of six months from the date of entry. You will also have to prove your financial status for the grant of a visa.
