Morocco is a colorful country in the Maghreb region of North Africa. From ancient cities and magnificent mountain ranges to sweeping deserts and beautiful coastlines, it is a diverse and interesting country with a lot to offer. In addition to attracting tourists, Morocco has been attracting medical tourists as well. The country is emerging as an important medical and wellness tourism destination thanks to its high-quality healthcare, affordable treatment costs, and well-trained medical professionals, many of whom have studied in the US and the EU. Besides, its close proximity to Western Europe, the fact that French and Spanish are widely spoken, and the availability of low-cost flights are very beneficial to the country’s medical tourism industry.
Medical tourism in Morocco is dominated by cosmetic treatments, with liposuction as the most sought after procedure. The cost of cosmetic surgery in the country can be 30% to 50% less than in Western European countries due to lower operational costs and no value-added tax.
Marrakesh, also known as the Red City, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Morocco. It is particularly famous for its main square, Djemaa el-Fna. This square is filled with exotic street performers, musicians, snake charmers, and story-tellers. At night, food vendors fill the square. Other popular attractions include the Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa, the Jardin Majorelle, and the Saadian Tombs. Besides Marrakesh, Fez is also popular among tourists. This city is dotted with mosques, palaces, and museums. Its medina is one attraction that tourists should not miss. Those who want to relax on Morocco’s coastlines should visit Tangier and Casablanca.
Mohammed V International Airport is the main international airport in Morocco. It serves flight to and from numerous cities around the world, including Paris, Dubai, London, and New York. Both major and budget airlines operate flights from this airport. To get around Morocco, buses and trains are the most affordable options. Taxis are available around the country, but they can be a bit more expensive than other transportation modes.
Nationals of 67 countries and territories can visit Morocco visa-free, including all EU citizens, the UAE, China, and the US. Other countries not listed in the visa-free agreement, need to apply and obtain a visa before coming to the county. The country also offers a medical stay permit for foreigners who want to undergo medical procedures in the country.
Morocco experiences a subtropical climate with four seasons. Summer (June to August) can be really hot, especially in Marrakesh and areas near the Sahara desert. Winter (December to February) can be very chilly, especially at night. It is also the wettest season in the country. Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the best times to visit Morocco as the weather is not too hot or too cold.
