I had a muscle pull in the right glutes ( butt) and initial muscle relaxant and painkillers only helped a bit. After 2 weeks, I could feel hardness in the affected area and muscle cramping had not reduced. I then sought the help of Jeffry. He applied heat, ultra sound treatment and electrotherapy. They did such a good job, I only needed one treatment. The hardness started to melt away within couple of hours. This is my first time visiting a physiotherapist and next time I will visit Platinum Physiotherapy first instead of relying on meds. Jeffry did an excellent job.

I had a terrible sprain on my left ankle from futsal, doctor recommended physio but i was reluctant to go. As this is not my first sprain, normally sprain will heal within 2 weeks. Sadly after 2 weeks of healing, there were no significant progress as this was really a bad sprain. I decided to give it a go. Ms Tan was my physician, she open my eye into another world of sports rehab. As my normal practice are treatment from Chinese Physician. Physio is much more than that, other that healing there is so much knowledge on muscle strengthening, stretching, warming up & posture during exercise. I would definitely recommend Ms Tan.

Edwin Cheong, 22 September 2020

I am really happy and thankful to "Your physio - Kepong" for giving me opportunity to complete my internship here and it has been a great and valuable experience to me. All the therapist here are extremely helpful and constantly guide me through doubts I encountered. Besides, from their years of experience in this field, they also willing to share the knowledges and help me in confirming diagnosis sometimes. I would say the therapists here are very passionate and dedication in the field towards patient, they always prioritize the patient's needs and work towards the ultimate goals together. At this centre, I also get the chance to perform some hands on skills to treat patient which helped me to learn and grow the skills. After this internship, it has instill much confidence in me than before in handling patient. I like the environment here so much, with all those abstract and meaning arts hanging along the walls and music played are rhythmically soft which can help patient to easily feel relaxing and comfortably from pain. Besides, the centre here is so clean and you can even smell the freshness in the air from the plants planted. Fret not to visit, during this epidemic period, the place is strictly following SOP and constantly sanitize before and after the treatment. The centre here also perfectly equipped with tools and machine for patients, they do provide special equipment like shock wave therapy and dry needling technique that not all physio centres offer. Once again, thank you to "Your physio Kepong" and the therapist team for this 4 weeks - Mr Ben, Miss Fei, Miss Jing Yi, Miss Xin Yi and Mr Yong 😁 From Edwin Cheong, MAHSA university (3/8 - 28/8/20).

Crystal Ng, 08 January 2019

Accompanied my husband for posture issues at Chew Spincare & Wellness yesterday. Dr Chew gave a thorough examination before starting to adjust his spine, and clearly explained to help him understand his muscle better. Was given stretches to work at home and helpful tips to maintain a healthy lifestyle. We love Dr Chew’s wellness approach instead of just focusing on the mechanical. Most of all unlike other practices, he is not hard selling at all. Will definitely recommend to others in Johor Bahru who has any postural / general health issues.

What you need to know about Physical Therapy in Malaysia

Physical therapy (PT), also known as physiotherapy, is a non-invasive type of treatment that helps individuals restore, maintain, and develop body movement and physical function. It is usually suggested to people who have had an illness, injury, or disability that makes it hard for them to do daily tasks. The main goal of physical therapy is to ease pain and help patients function, move, and live better. Medical professionals who provide physical therapy are called physical therapists, or physiotherapists. They are trained and licensed to diagnose physical abnormalities, maintain physical function, restore physical function and mobility, and promote proper function and physical activity.

Physical therapists are qualified to treat a wide range of medical conditions, depending on their specialty. Some of the most common physical therapy specialties are:

  • Orthopedic physical therapy treats musculoskeletal injuries. They typically treat fractures, tendonitis, sprains, and bursitis.
  • Geriatric physical therapy helps older people with conditions that affect their physical function and mobility, such as hip and joint replacement, Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, and arthritis.
  • Neurological physical therapy help people with neurological disorder or disease, such as brain injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation help those affected by certain cardiopulmonary conditions and surgical procedures.
  • Pediatric physical therapy assists in the diagnosis, treat and manage conditions affecting infants, children, and adolescents, such as developmental delays, spina bifida, and torticollis.

Physical therapy can be different for everyone, depending on the patient’s illness or injury and personal goal. Physical therapy treatment may involve:

  • Targeted exercises and stretches guided by the physical therapist
  • Ultrasound to promote blood flow and healing.
  • Massage, heat or cold therapy, or warm water therapy to relieve muscle pain or spasms.
  • Phonophoresis to decrease inflammation.
  • Electrical stimulation to increase functional capabilities and reduce pain.
  • Light therapy to treat certain medical conditions.

How Long Should I Stay in Malaysia?

Most of the time, you may be allowed to leave Malaysia right after your physical therapy session. However, since a physical therapy program usually requires more than one session, you should stay until all of your sessions are finished. Most people will need six to twelve sessions, between six and eight weeks.

What's the Expected Recovery Time?

It is generally recommended that you rest after a physical therapy session. Physical therapy helps you recover from an illness or an injury and there is usually no extra recovery time after you finish your physical therapy program.

What Aftercare is Required?

After a physical therapy session, you must drink plenty of water and take note of unusual pain. If your physical therapist gives you an exercise program to do at home, make sure to do it as directed. Your physical therapist will likely give you instructions to make recovery time quicker and avoid any further damage.

What's the Success Rate?

Like many other medical treatments, physical therapy continues to advance. With the broad knowledge and experience of physical therapists, they can use evidence-based approaches to help you improve mobility, balance, and strength, as well as reduce scar tissue formation, relieve pain and swelling, improve flexibility, and reduce the development of any secondary issue. Physical therapy is safe, but there are some risks you will need to be aware of. It can cause discomfort, pain, and in some very rare cases, do more harm than good.

Are there Alternatives?

Alternatives to physical therapy depend on your specific condition. For some diseases and injury, you may have no other choice than seeing a physical therapist. In many cases, you may be able to see massage therapists, acupuncturists, or chiropractors to relieve pain.

Whilst the information presented here has been accurately sourced and verified by a medical professional for its accuracy, it is still advised to consult with your doctor before pursuing a medical treatment at one of the listed medical providers
